Border Tuner

Transtelco’s proud to partner with Border Tuner, an upcoming event this November! Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, an internationally renowned visual artist, will showcase his interactive art installation that highlights the complex connections between El Paso and Juárez. You can expect art, performances, and a celebration of culture, history, and unity between these two border cities.

What to Expect

Throughout November, Border Tuner will feature a public art installation by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer right at the El Paso-Juárez border. The event will take place at the Parque Chamizal in Juárez and the parking lots of Bowie High School in El Paso. The art installation includes light beams on both sides of the border so that when they are directed towards each other, it produces a notable bridge of light and sound, activating microphones and speakers for people from both sides to communicate with one another. Overall, the art installation aims to open up dialogue and interaction between both sides of the border with nightly conversations and performances.

About the Artist

Rafel Lozano-Hemmer was born in Mexico City and is internationally renowned for creating interactive art installations that invite the public to participate. He has created large, interactive pieces globally, such as in Paris, Dubai, New York City, Philadelphia, and Montreal.

He has had solo exhibitions at museums around the world, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the MUAC Museum in Mexico City, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.

Currently, Rafel has been working on a film, Megalodemocrat, over the past 10 years across 17 countries that captures how various, large-scale art installations he’s created have helped transform and reconnect cities as society grows increasingly isolated. The last project to be shown in the film will be Border Tuner, highlighting the El Paso-Juárez border.

Our Partnership

As an El Paso and Juárez-based company, Transtelco is proud to help sponsor Border Tuner. We believe in the power of cross-border collaboration and are excited to support this project’s goal to shine light on uniting both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border. Thank you to Todash for going above and beyond to help us set up the LAN which is being used by the art installation and the open WiFi network that is available for all visitors. As a leading telecommunications service provider, we understand the importance of bridging communication and providing seamless connections.
